Subtypes of major depressive disorder based on biological, cognitive, motor and clinical (endo)phenotypes
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a common, severely debilitating disorder. MDD patients frequently show only partial recovery and often relapse. Since MDD patients form a very diverse group, it is important to categorize them in subtypes. The most validated subtypes are melancholic and atypical depression. However, this categorization is often based on a clinical representation and ignores biological findings. The current technological developments (lab, apps, cognitive tests, motor measurements) allow us to 'measure' rather than to 'describe' depressive patients.
This project aims to introduce a new classification system of MDD subtypes based on clinical phenotypes and peripheral biological markers.
