Flemish Experience sampling study for Depression

Biomarkers during Ketamine treatment

Several recent studies suggest that a single intravenous ketamine treatment has a quick and positive effect on the symptoms of depression, especially in people who do not respond to other antidepressants. We do a double blinded study (ie, the doctor and the participant do not know what they are given, only the pharmacy is aware of this), with the participant receiving ketamine or a placebo. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is an antidepressant effect of intravenous administration of ketamine and whether this effect can be determined by biological measurements. Other goals are to investigate whether the reaction to ketamine can be predicted. This is done by evaluating various psychological features and biological parameters relating to the nervous system, the immune system and the intestinal flora.
